About the Designer:
Rose Mae Turner is a Chicago-based fashion designer and fashionista.
Before completing graduation at Dominican University in 2008, Rose interned with Lidia Wachowska of the line Evil Kitty. She also contributed to Chicago based clothing lines, Calfi Design and Spirit Africa. After graduating she started her own clothing line, Rosina~Mae in late 2008.
Named after her grandmothers, Rosina Maria Talano and Bivea Mae Turner, Rose always admired the creative and talented women and men in family. Rose is inspired by streets of the city. Specifically, architecture and shapes catch her eye. She also finds inspiration from dreams. Rose has learned not to wait for inspiration to occur, but rather seeks it and initiates it herself.
Rosina~Mae is a young contemporary womenswear line. The mission of Rosina~Mae is to provide fashionistas with unique and adventurous quality clothing. Many pieces are functional and do not wrinkle. Rosina~Mae provides clothing that adapts to a woman's individual style. Pieces are easily mixed, matched, and layered so that every fashionista can wear Rosina~Mae in her own way. Rose is known for using unconventional materials in her designs like glitter, metallic fabrics, and PVC material. Swimwear, cover-ups, skirts, other separates, and dresses take you straight from “the beach, to the street, to the party!”
In addition to designing for her clothing line, she creates wearable art and one-of-a–kind garments using recycled odds n ends, revamps vintage clothing, and dabbles in wardrobe styling/ creative directing for artists and musicians. Collaborations include: The Zeebs, Torrio Jetson, and The Cool Kids. Rose also has designed ice skating outfits and pageant swimsuits. In the past,
Rose worked as a stylist for Glam Live, fashion show producer for Exodos Magazine Chicago, and dresser at Elite Model Management (now Factor Women). She also was an adjunct professor in 2009 at IADT, Schaumburg.
Rose has been a freelance blogger/ journalist for a few years. Publications she has contributed to include: WeKnow TV, The Art Trade, Bleech Magazine, and Exodos Magazine. On the side, Rose still volunteers her help at various charity fashion shows, offering her expertise with production, marketing, runway choreography, and styling.
